Laser scanning is a non-contact technological process that digitally captures and documents the shape of rooms and objects using a laser light. The scanner uses the laser to create “point clouds”. Point clouds are a cluster of dots that lay where the laser hits a surface (i.e. floor, wall, ceiling or object). Simply put, laser scanning allows us to be able to capture the exact size and shape of a room, house, space or object in the physical world and translate it to a 3-dimensional model in a CAD program of our choosing. Using this we are able to quickly create highly accurate models and also document locations of MEP systems if the need for it arises in the future.

This video is an example of a laser scan of one of our projects during the construction process. In the video you can see all of the framing and some of the MEP systems that were installed at the time of the scan.
